Broad Spectrum CBD and the Entourage Effect

by Michelle Thibault on September 16, 2022

Bliss Formula CBD is a broad-spectrum phytocannabinoid-rich distillate, filled with the same terpenes and flavonoid molecules that are naturally found in the hemp plant.

Note: Hemp and marijuana plants are both members of the same species. Hemp is legally defined as a cannabis plant containing 0.3 percent THC or less, whereas marijuana is defined as a cannabis plant containing more than 0.3 percent THC.

Our broad spectrum CBD distillate is better than isolate because it has the terpenes needed for the entourage effect which means that all the health benefits of cannabidiol and other hemp cannabinoids (except for THC), work synergistically with health-boosting plant compounds for a holistic, more balanced effect - like pieces of a puzzle falling into place.

This is the reason why Bliss Formula CBD products are designed to address a wider range of lifestyle applications including mental exhaustion, inability to sustain attention, anxiety, low moods, post- exercise recovery, chronic pain, inflammation, and insomnia.

The broad spectrum distillate is produced using a proprietary, supercritical CO2 extraction process, winterized, and filtered to remove excess plant material. The end result is a broad-spectrum oil that has a higher concentration of CBD that is better than isolate because it contains terpenes. As part of our quality assurance process, the distillate is then tested by a third party lab using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis to ensure our CBD's potency and purity.

The Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is a term that is commonly used in the cannabis industry. By definition, it is the synergistic effect of various plant compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and so on) found in various strains of cannabis. This synergy is  known to deliver enhanced health and wellness benefits to your mind and body by engaging with your Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

In this article, we will further explore how terpenoids can add to the beneficial effects of Cannabidiol (CBD). Terpenoids, like phytocannabinoids, have a common precursor and are all flavor and fragrance components in human diets that have been labelled Generally Recognized as Safe by the US Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies.

Terpenoids have a strong effect on animal and human behavior when inhaled or ingested. They exhibit distinct therapeutic effects that may significantly contribute to the entourage effects of cannabis-based medicinal extracts. A special emphasis will be placed on cannabidiol-terpenoid interactions that may result in synergy in the treatment of pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety, attention disorders, and certain infections.

The entourage effect is a promising and exciting phenomenon that occurs when certain cannabis plant compound combinations produce enhanced benefits in your body. For example, CBD + linalool + limonene + eucalyptol work together as an anti-acne due to their anti-microbial components. Anxiolytic and sleep-promoting effects are enhanced by combining CBD, CBN, and pinene. On the other hand, CBD combined with CBG and borneol augment each other’s anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Below are terpenes that may be included in a Broad Spectrum distillate:

Pinene- can be used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and bronchial dilator as a therapeutic remedy.

Humulene- This compound has two main medicinal applications: appetite suppressant and anti-inflammatory.

Limonene- The aroma of Limonene is uplifting due to its bright, citrusy scent. Its uplifting properties aid in the reduction of anxiety and depression. Another beneficial property is that it acts as a digestive aid.

Myrcene- This herb is well-known for promoting overall body relaxation, also known as "Couch-Lock." Another important property is the ability to increase absorption through the skin as well as the number of cannabinoid substances in the brain, resulting in euphoria.

Borneol- Its properties include anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Phytol- With floral tones, it is frequently used for its sedative and anti-anxiety properties.

Eucalyptol-This terpene has a refreshing menthol, minty aroma. It is anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal.

Sabinene- With a slightly spicy scent, this terpene has anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties.

Despite some positive and intriguing studies on the entourage effect, all conducted by renowned scientists and experts, identifying specific mechanisms warrant further studies.

The Benefits of Broad-Spectrum CBD Over Full-Spectrum CBD

When we talk about the Entourage effect, there are two CBD distillates that qualify: Full spectrum and Broad Spectrum CBD.

The chemical makeup is the primary distinction between the two oils. Full-spectrum CBD contains all of the compounds and cannabinoids found naturally in hemp plants. Broad-spectrum is similar to the former in this regard. The only difference between the two is that broad-spectrum oils do not contain THC.

When it comes to versatility, Broad-spectrum takes the easy win over Full-spectrum especially when an individual need to engage in activities that require mental acuity such as driving, operating equipment and machineries, taking an exam, or competing in a game.

Furthermore, consuming full-spectrum CBD oils may result in a positive drug test. You may test positive even if the THC percentage in full-spectrum is less than 0.3 percent. Broad-spectrum, on the other hand, poses no risk because it contains no THC. Moreover, while THC has proven benefits, we chose Broad Spectrum and removed traces of THC due to its unwanted side effects of overwhelming anxiety, fear, short-term memory loss, and paranoia.

Is CBD Legal?

CBD laws are changing at the same rate as the colors of a disco light bulb. When you think you've read everything, remember that the government is constantly reviewing and changing its regulations and legislation.

One of the primary reasons for this is the broad range of cannabis plant varieties, national versus international rules, and even differences in political parties' views on CBD.

There are countries that serve as the main players in the CBD market, some are stuck in the grey area, and while some governments require a prescription, there are countries that are completely banning this substance. Click here to  know the CBD regulations in your local area.
